Адамс «Пеппер», «Найф» (Adams «Pepper», «Knife») (настоящее имя Парк Адамс, Park Adams) (8 октября 1930, Хайлэнд-Парк, шт. Иллинойс — 10 сентября 1986, Нью-Йорк), американский джазовый саксофонист (баритон, тенор, альт), кларнетист, руководитель ансамбля (свинг, прогрессив, модерн-джаз).
Обучался игре на кларнете и тенор-саксофоне, в середине 1940-х гг. перешел на баритон-саксофон. Первый ангажемент на неделю работы в театральном оркестре получил в возрасте 12 лет (по протекции «Дюка» Эллингтона). Дебютировал как профессиональный джазмен в ансамбле «Лакки» Томпсона в 1947, впоследствии продолжал сотрудничать с ним (1951-53). До 1956 выступал как фрилансер с различными ансамблями в Детройте (в том числе с Уорделлом Грэем, Барри Харрисом, Фрэнком Фостепром, Томми Флэнэганом), затем переехал в Нью-Йорк, где играл в оркестрах Стэна Кентона (до 1957) и Мэйнард Фергюсон, с «Четом» Бейкером. Работал долгое время на Западном побережье, а после возвращения в Нью-Йорк (1958) — в биг-бэндах Бенни Гудмена (1958), «Каунта» Бейси (1959), Тэда Джонса — Мела Льюиса (1965-76), в комбо Дональда Берда, Урби Грина, Мэла Уолдрона, миддл-бэндах Чарли Мингуса и Телониуса Монка (в 1959 участвовал в знаменитом концерте экспериментального оркестра Монка в Таун-Холле). Гастролировал в Европе. Умер от быстротечной раковой болезни в период высшего творческого расцвета.
В международных анкетах нередко занимал ведущие места среди исполнителей на баритон-саксофоне. Неоднократно был удостоен премии «Грэмми». В 1950-е гг. считался серьезным конкурентом Джерри Маллигана. Испытал влияния Коулмена Хокинса, Гарри Карни и «Сонни» Роллинса, со временем выработал индивидуальную манеру игры. Будучи белым музыкантом, тем не менее развивал традиции негритянского хот-джаза с некоторой тенденцией к их «софистикации» (усложнению, интеллектуализации). Проявил себя в различных стилевых сферах (свинг, прогрессив, хард-боп). Весомый вклад внес в развитие мэйнстрим-джаза. Свои прозвища «Пеппер» («перец») и «Найф» («Нож») получил от музыкантов оркестра Кентона в связи с горячим темпераментом и склонностью к особой, обостренной манере фразировки, так называемой «разорванной мелодии», свободной от подчинения принципам метрической регулярности и квадратности.
Записи «Пеппера» Адамса весьма многочисленны: с собственным ансамблем (с 1956), а также с Джином Аммонсом, «Четом» Бэйкером, Б. Гудменом, Куинси Джонсом, Лайонелом Хэмптоном, Т.
